A motion to dismiss Andriy Kostin from the post of Prosecutor General is submitted to the Verkhovna Rada

On October 28, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy registered a draft resolution in the Verkhovna Rada, which provides for the parliament’s consent to the dismissal of Andriy Kostin from the post of Prosecutor General.

Earlier, on October 22, Andriy Kostin himself announced his decision to leave his post. In his statement, he noted that he supports the president’s position regarding the need to cancel all illegal decisions regarding the appointment of disability, pensions and other benefits, as well as the need to implement legislative and organizational changes. Kostin emphasized that in this situation the personal, particularly political, responsibility of officials is also important.

I consider the position of the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, to be absolutely correct regarding the fact that not only should all illegal decisions regarding the granting of disabilities, corresponding pension and other payments be canceled, but also clear legislative and organizational changes, but also personal responsibility. Including political responsibility.

I am grateful to the President of Ukraine and the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for their trust. But in this situation, I think it is correct to announce the dismissal from the position of Prosecutor General“, Kostin noted.

On October 25, the Prosecutor General’s Office reported that the Council of Prosecutors supported the proposed changes to the Law on the Prosecutor’s Office, aimed at eliminating the possibility of prosecutors receiving a pension and salary at the same time. According to these changes, the pension for years of service will be paid only after the dismissal of the prosecutor from his position, establishing the principle of “either salary or pension”. The developed changes will be submitted to the subject of the legislative initiative for further consideration.
