Japan and Ukraine agreed to strengthen cooperation in the field of security

Japan and Ukraine have agreed to strengthen bilateral dialogue on security issues amid reports of North Korean troops participating in the war on the side of Russia. About this stated the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan Takeshi Iwaya during a joint briefing with his Ukrainian counterpart Andrii Sibiga, held in Kyiv.
Ivaya noted that the parties discussed the “extremely alarming situation” with the deployment of North Korean troops in Russia, which are participating in hostilities against Ukraine. The Japanese minister expressed deep concern, as such a situation affects not only Ukraine, but also carries security risks in Asia. He also strongly condemned Pyongyang’s actions.
“In view of such challenges, we agreed to start a high-level bilateral dialogue with the participation of the leadership of the Foreign Ministry and the Ministries of Defense of both countries. This will allow us to systematize our information sharing efforts and strengthen cooperation in the field of security“, Ivaya emphasized.
On November 16, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan carried out an unannounced visit to Ukraine, emphasizing Tokyo’s support in Kyiv’s fight against Russian aggression. During the visit, he also visited the memorial to the victims of the Russian occupation in Buchi to honor the memory of the dead.
