Lukashenko is currently refusing to provide a corridor for a new Russian invasion of Belarus: Budanov

The head of the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Kyrylo Budanov, said that the President of Belarus, Oleksandr Lukashenko, refuses to provide Russia with a territorial corridor for attempts to re-invade Ukraine from the north. That’s what he’s about said in an interview with Natalia Moseichuk, answering questions about the possibility of repeating the scenario in February 2022.

“This is a difficult question. Currently, he categorically does not agree to this and will not agree. Now. After all, we all remember the year 22 when what everyone saw happened. And we just have to be strong and ready for anything. Then there will be no surprises for us. It depends on us.” Budanov emphasized.

Thus, the head of military intelligence does not rule out a potential threat, but emphasizes the importance of domestic preparedness for any scenario.

At the same time, the speaker of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, Andriy Demchenko, said that there are currently no signs of the formation of Russian strike groups capable of creating a direct threat to Ukraine in the direction of Belarus. However, according to him, the situation remains tense and potentially dangerous, especially in the context of future exercises.

In September 2025, large-scale strategic military exercises “West-2025” are planned with the participation of Russia and Belarus. According to available information, the number of involved forces will reach about 100,000 military personnel, which significantly exceeds the previously announced data of 13,000 participants. The Ukrainian side is closely monitoring the preparations for these maneuvers, as they carry the potential risk of provocations or cover for aggressive actions.

It will be recalled that it was previously reported that Minsk is trying to move the active phase of the exercises deep into Belarus, away from the border with Ukraine, in order to avoid accusations of provocations. Despite this, the invasion in 2022 through the territory of Belarus remains in the memory, and the Ukrainian security forces are preparing for any options.
