Russia is equipping its UAVs with rear-view cameras to counter Ukrainian FPV drones

The Russian military has begun equipping its reconnaissance drones with rear-view cameras to detect Ukrainian FPV drones that threaten their aircraft. About this informs Defense Express with reference to expert Sergey “Flesh” Beskrestnov.
According to the publication, the implementation of this technology took place in an extremely short period of time – in just two weeks from the idea to practical implementation. The first case of the use of such a camera was recorded after one of the Russian drones, presumably the ZALA 421 model, was shot down by the Ukrainian military.
Photos of the downed drone show a miniature camera connected to a special Russian-made device equipped with antennas. Its task is to monitor the approach of Ukrainian FPV drones, which allows the drone operator to try to avoid a collision.
Despite this innovation, reconnaissance UAVs are limited in the capabilities of complex maneuvers, which reduces their effectiveness in countering such threats. One option to avoid the attack, according to experts, could be to increase the speed of the drone.
The article also notes that the effectiveness of such countermeasures is still questionable. However, the fact that Russia is rapidly implementing new methods of countering Ukrainian anti-aircraft FPV drones indicates increased attention to this threat. In the future, it is possible to expand the list of protective equipment, which may include the installation of electronic warfare (EW) equipment on reconnaissance drones.
