Russian military shot five Ukrainian prisoners in Pokrovsk direction

In the Donetsk region, the Russian military shot dead five Ukrainian defenders who were captured. About this reported Office of the Prosecutor General.

According to preliminary information, in November 2024, Russian forces attacked Ukrainian defense positions near the village of Petrivka in the Pokrovsky district. As a result of the assault, five servicemen of the Armed Forces were forced to retreat to a private house. After surrounding the building, the occupiers took them prisoner, forced them to come out and lie on the ground.

“After surrounding the residence, Russian soldiers captured the Ukrainian defenders. They were forced to leave their shelter unarmed and lie down on the ground. In violation of international humanitarian law, the occupiers shot Ukrainian prisoners with automatic weapons”, the message says.

The Donetsk regional prosecutor’s office has started a pre-trial investigation into the fact of a war crime, provided for in part 2 of article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Investigators of the Security Service of Ukraine in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions are working to establish all the circumstances of the tragedy and the persons involved in the crime.

The killing of prisoners of war grossly violates the Geneva Conventions and is classified as a serious international crime. Investigations are ongoing to bring the culprits to justice.
