The G7 summit began in Italy

Today, June 13, the 50th summit of the “Great Seven” (G7) began in the city of Borgo-Egnatia, where the leaders of the most developed industrialized countries of the world gathered to discuss the key issues facing the world community. The meeting will last until June 15.

The meeting began with a speech by the President of Italy, Giorgia Meloni, who noted the importance of joining the efforts of the participating countries to overcome global challenges and promote international stability. After that, the G7 leaders started a series of working meetings devoted to various aspects of international politics and economics.

The main issues discussed at the summit are:

  • The war in Ukraine: discussion of further support for Ukraine and ways to end the war.
  • Conflict in the Middle East: supporting the US plan for a cease-fire in the Gaza Strip and finding ways to resolve the conflict.
  • Artificial Intelligence: Discussing the Regulatory and Ethical Aspects of the Use of Artificial Intelligence.
  • Migration: finding common solutions to migration and refugee assistance.
  • Financial issues: discussion of economic security, energy transition and environmental protection.
  • Situation in the Indo-Pacific region: discussion of security and economic challenges in the region.
  • In addition, the issues of Africa, the Mediterranean and energy will be discussed at a separate session.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Maloni, French President Emmanuel Macron, US President Joe Biden, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, as well as some invited guests are present at the summit leaders, including President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi, President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan, President of Argentina Javier Millay, President of Brazil Luis Ignacio Lula da Silva, Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi. There will also be Charles Michel and Ursula von der Leyen from the European Union.

It is expected that the result of the summit will be a joint communiqué, which will define the main directions of joint actions of the participating countries in order to overcome the complex challenges facing the world today.
