The National Security and Defense Council explained the motives for the deployment of “Hazelnut” in Belarus

The show with “Oreshnik” in Belarus is another attempt at intimidation, which was probably imposed on Vladimir Putin by Serhiy Kiriyenko and Mykola Patrushev. As told Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation at the NSDC, there is no fundamental difference whether it will be launched from “Kapusty Yar” or from Belarus.
“All the talk about a shorter approach time is a nightmare for the civilians of the West and Ukraine. For anti-missile defense systems, this thing will not play a role. Just as it happened with the Dagger, which was shot down by a Patriot last year for the first time in history. But for placement will have to solve a number of technical issues”, – explained Kovalenko.
The National Security Council emphasizes that Russia’s main goal is to use fear as a propaganda tool against Western countries. Earlier attempts to play the nuclear weapons card in Belarus did not bring the expected effect. Now “Oreshnik” is presented as a “threat”, allegedly approaching the borders of NATO, in order to influence public sentiment in Europe.
“Nuclear weapons in Belarus did not work informationally, “Oreshnik” is used as a bubble in response to the permission to strike the Russian Federation with Western long-range weapons. And the deployment in Belarus will be promoted purely informationally under the narrative of “the approach of Oreshnik to the borders of NATO” in order to change the public mood in Europe “, – noted the head of the CSDP of the NSDC.
