At a recent NATO event in Poland, Deputy Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine Oleksiy Bornyakov spoke about the development in Ukraine of a prototype drone equipped with AI to identify and eliminate Russian war criminals by the sound of their voice. NATO Assistant Secretary General David van Wael gave the example of using AI to analyze satellite imagery to count Russian aircraft and gas stations, a less risky use of the technology.
There are growing calls in the West for the development of legally binding rules for the use of AI in weapons, particularly from the United Nations and Stop the Killer Robots.
