Zelenskyy met with Umerov: new decisions in the defense department were announced

The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting with the Minister of Defense Rustem Umyerov, during which they discussed both operational directions and issues of reforming the defense sector. Following the results of the meeting, the head of state stated the need to implement new solutions in the management of the defense sector, as well as strengthening the dynamics of cooperation with the United States.

In his Telegram message, Zelenskyi noted, that Ukraine should bring about qualitative changes in defense management, and the corresponding steps will be announced in the near future.

One of the key areas of conversation was contracting and increasing the production of drones. The President instructed to conclude contracts for all available volumes of priority types of drones, separately emphasizing work with European countries to attract funding. He emphasized that already this year, the pace of production and delivery of drones to the military should exceed previous plans. In addition, non-standard measures to strengthen defense were announced, in particular due to the expansion of international support.

Separately, Zelensky emphasized the need for changes in state institutions and the importance of strengthening contacts with Washington, stressing:

“Ukraine needs more positive dynamics in relations with the United States, and at the same time new steps are needed in the management of the defense sphere of our state. Relevant decisions will be made public in the near future.”
