8,3 млн кредитов и 15,77 млрд грн долга: год микрозаймов в Украине

Ukrainians continue to actively use the services of microfinance organizations — the volume of loans and amounts of debt for 2024 have increased significantly. According to official data of the National Bank of Ukraine, in just one year, microfinance companies issued more than 8.3 million loans with a total amount of almost 52 billion hryvnias. In monetary terms, this is 27% more than was recorded in 2023. About this informs The opendatabase.

Despite the fact that the number of signed contracts almost did not change, Ukrainians began to borrow larger amounts. If in 2023 the average size of a microloan was 4,926 hryvnias, then in 2024 it reached 6,217 hryvnias. This is an increase of 26% for the year. The most intense loans were taken in the third quarter — about 729,000 transactions per month. At the end of the year, demand decreased somewhat: on average, 691,000 loans were issued per month.

Together with the increase in the volume of loans, the amount of debt also increased. During the first nine months of 2024, microloan debt practically doubled — from UAH 9.3 billion at the beginning of the year to UAH 18.47 billion in the third quarter. In October-December, the amount slightly decreased, decreasing by 2.7 billion, but this did not change the general trend.

At the beginning of 2025, the debt of Ukrainians to microfinance organizations reached 15.77 billion hryvnias. This is 6.47 billion more than a year earlier, that is, the growth was 1.7 times.

In 2020-2021, microfinance institutions disbursed more than 11-14 million loans each year. After the full-scale invasion began, the number of such deals dropped sharply, to 5.4 million in 2022. In 2023-2024, the market partially recovered: more than 8 million microloans were issued annually. At the same time, average loan amounts are growing from year to year. In 2020, the average loan amounted to 4,073 hryvnias, and in 2024 it already exceeded 6,200.

Demand for microloans remains high even against the background of general economic pressure. But in parallel with this, the number of debt obligations of the population is also increasing. Repayment of part of the loans at the end of the year could not compensate for the overall increase in debt, which is becoming larger every year.

These figures show that microcredit, despite criticism and high risks, remains one of the key financial tools for many Ukrainians. However, more and more borrowers do not have time to service their debts on time, which creates the basis for the expansion of problem debt in the near future.
