Канада вводит тарифы в размере 25% в ответ на торговые ограничения, введенные Трампом

Canada is introducing appropriate tariffs in response to US President Donald Trump’s decision to restrict imports. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that the country would impose a 25% tariff on a wide range of American goods, including beverages, fruit, household appliances and clothing. This was reported by the agency Reuters.
The total value of imports that will be affected by these tariffs is 155 billion Canadian dollars (about 107 billion US dollars). Some of the tariffs — worth 30 billion Canadian dollars — will go into effect on Tuesday, at the same time as the US restrictions. The remaining $125 billion will be subject to sanctions in 21 days.
Canada’s decision is a response to the Trump administration’s 25% tariffs on goods from Canada and Mexico, as well as 10% tariffs on products from China. Economists warn that this escalation of the trade conflict could have serious consequences for the world economy, slowing its growth and provoking a new round of inflation.
Trudeau acknowledged that the coming weeks could be difficult for Canadians, but stressed that Trump’s decision would also hurt Americans. According to him, the new tariffs will lead to an increase in the prices of basic goods — from products in supermarkets to fuel at gas stations.
The list of goods subject to sanctions by Canada includes:
- American beer, wine and bourbon;
- fruit and fruit juices, including orange juice from Trump’s home state of Florida;
- clothing, sports equipment and household appliances.
In addition to customs restrictions, the Canadian government is also considering the possibility of introducing non-tariff measures, in particular in the field of critical minerals, energy procurement and other economic partnerships.
Trudeau urged citizens to support the domestic market by buying Canadian goods and traveling domestically instead of spending money in the US. He emphasized that Canada did not seek this trade conflict, but has no intention of giving in.
