The Security Service of Ukraine exposed an intelligence group that transmitted coordinates for shelling of Kyiv. Three people, including a citizen of Russia, were detained on suspicion of orchestrating attacks on defense enterprises and weapons warehouses. About this informs SBU press office.
The investigation established that the main task of the exposed intelligence group was to correct airstrikes by Russian troops on Kyiv. The strikes were mainly aimed at strategic objects — defense enterprises and warehouses with weapons and ammunition of the Defense Forces of Ukraine.
According to the case materials, the agents acted autonomously, but all were subordinate to one curator — an employee of the Russian GRU, whose identity had already been established by the SBU counter-intelligence. The detained citizen of the Russian Federation lived in Ukraine in a «sleeping mode», but after the start of the full-scale invasion, he was activated by Russian military intelligence.
To observe the targets, he equipped a position on the roof of a multi-story building in Kyiv. Access to the technical premises was provided thanks to acquaintance with the representative of the condominium, who had the keys to the roofs.
The other two participants — one currently works in the defense sector, the other is a former employee of one of these companies. One of them collected data on the consequences of missile strikes, the number of employees at enterprises, repair bases, etc. Another — under the guise of personal communication, asked former colleagues for the coordinates of potential targets.
SBU counter-intelligence documented the agents’ actions and detained all members of the group. During the searches, computer equipment and phones with agency reports were seized. A quadcopter was also found, which one of the suspects planned to use to collect information about defense facilities from the air.
The SBU investigators informed the detainees of the suspicion under several articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:
- h 2 Art. 111 — treason under martial law;
- h 3 Art. 114-2 — unauthorized dissemination of information about the Armed Forces;
- ch. 1, 3 Art. 436-2 — denial of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation, glorification of its participants.
Two detainees are already in custody without bail. For the third figure, the SBU sent a petition to the court to choose a preventive measure. The special operation was carried out by SBU employees in Kyiv and the Kyiv region under the procedural guidance of the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office.
