The war fundamentally changed the lives of millions of Ukrainian children. Those who went to school carefree a few years ago are now forced to live in conditions of constant danger. Sirens, explosions, shelling, evacuation, loss of relatives and homes — this is a cruel reality in which a new generation of Ukrainians is growing up. The war forced children to grow up quickly, but at the same time it posed a new challenge to society: how to give them the necessary knowledge and skills so that they could survive, not lose faith in the future and have the opportunity to develop? Education in wartime is not just schooling. This is an opportunity to prepare children for dangers, teach them to react correctly in extreme situations, help them maintain psychological balance. After all, even the simplest knowledge about how to behave during an air raid or what to do when explosive objects are detected can save lives. An important step in this direction was the launch of the educational series «How to act in emergency situations», which recently appeared on the «Action.Education» platform. She reported about it DSNS press office. This course, created at the initiative of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine with the support of the Ministry of Digital Transformation and UNICEF, aims to teach children, parents and youth algorithms for actions in dangerous situations. What is the educational series «How to act in emergency situations» This series consists of six episodes, each of which is devoted to a different type of danger. Based on real situations, the Ukrainian family faces challenges that can happen at any moment. They are forced to act quickly, make the right decisions and stay calm. Among the main topics of the series are: Fires: what to do in case of a fire in a house or public place, how to use a fire extinguisher, what items should not be used during a fire. Danger on the water and in the mountains: what to do if you are caught in a storm, fall under the ice or get lost in the forest? Chemical and radiation threats: how to protect yourself and your family during accidents at chemical plants or in case of enemy use of poisonous substances? Dangers of war: how to act during shelling, what to do in case of detection of explosive objects, how to organize shelter at home? Medical safety: how to provide first aid to yourself or others, what to do in case of poisoning or injury? Psychological resilience: how to overcome panic, cope with anxiety and help children feel safe even in difficult conditions? The series does not just talk about dangers — it provides clear algorithms for actions in each situation. Thanks to the interactive format, viewers can learn to use the acquired knowledge in practice. The series can be viewed on the «Diya.Osvita» platform. Each episode is accompanied by practical tasks and useful materials that help consolidate the acquired knowledge. Users who complete all series and complete interactive tasks will receive certificates of basic emergency preparedness. This is not just a formal document, but confirmation that a person has the necessary knowledge to act in critical conditions. The importance of children’s safety in wartime The war made the safety of children a top priority for Ukrainian society. Many children have already lost their homes, survived rocket attacks, witnessed violence or become orphans. In such conditions, they are particularly vulnerable to threats, and their psychological stability is severely tested. One of the greatest dangers to children is explosives. After hostilities, Ukrainian cities and villages remain littered with mines, cluster munitions and unexploded shells. Children who do not understand the dangers may accidentally find them, which can lead to tragedy. That is why the series pays special attention to how to recognize and avoid such threats. Airborne alarms and shelters are another important topic. Children should know how to act during an alarm signal, where safe places are, how to properly hide in shelters, and what to do if shelling catches you by surprise. Psychological support is also extremely important. The series talks about self-soothing techniques that help reduce anxiety, how parents can support children in stressful situations, what to do if a child begins to feel panic or fear. According to Andrii Danyk, head of the State Emergency Service, today the skills of safe behavior are not just desirable, but vitally necessary. In the conditions of war, every second can become decisive, and the right actions can save lives. This course helps to create a culture of safety among children and adults, prepare them for any challenges and make them stronger. Today, Ukraine is not just defending itself — it is creating the basis for the future, where security and knowledge will be the key to a life without fear. Children of war are a generation that will never be the same again. Now it is extremely necessary to give them knowledge that will help them not only to survive, but also to build a future.

Of them, 8,053 have already become candidates for the Defense Forces of Ukraine. The main trend of this process is that 20% of recruits are women, that is, every fifth candidate. About this informs Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. The level of female participation in the military varies by region, and in some areas the rate is higher than the overall average. The Lukyaniv detention center in Kyiv has long had a dubious reputation, and recent investigations have only confirmed the worst suspicions about what is happening behind its walls. Corruption, torture, extortion and drug trafficking are the realities that prisoners face every day. The Hapuga.UA program recently published a stunning story that caused a violent reaction in society and forced law enforcement officers to intervene immediately. After the release of the material, the National Police and the General Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation. On January 28, it appeared on the official website of the Prosecutor General’s Office information about the exposure of an organized group that organized large-scale drug trafficking to the pretrial detention center. At the same time, the police released a video of the searches, which confirmed the existence of a criminal scheme. According to the investigation, drug trafficking to Lukyanivskyi SIZO was organized by two brothers who were previously in this detention center themselves. They involved several more people in the criminal activity, among them was one of the prisoners and three freed citizens of Kyiv. They were responsible for delivering the drugs to the detention center, passing them over the fence. The obtained «goods» were sold to prisoners, and the received funds were partly used in the so-called «obschak» — a criminal fund from which the activities of the criminal world are financed. However, the drug business was not the only way this group made money. They also engaged in extortion, beatings and death threats. In order to force one of the prisoners to pay for a «quiet stay» within the walls of the detention center, he was brutally beaten and demanded two thousand US dollars. The victim was able to find only 80 thousand hryvnias, which he eventually handed over to the criminals. After the publication of the investigation and searches, the police conducted raids on the residence of the suspects, seized significant amounts of money, narcotics and draft records. All seven members of the group have been charged. Five of them, who were at large, were taken into custody without bail. According to Hapuga.UA, at least five people have been killed there since the start of the full-scale Russian invasion. One of the last known victims is Andrii Kyazimov, who was brutally beaten in a detention center. He died in hospital on New Year’s Eve, and his death caused a significant public outcry. Former People’s Deputy of Ukraine Ihor Mosiychuk asserts, who is well aware of the situation in Lukyanivskyi SIZO, because he visited it several times with inspections. He emphasizes that corruption and disorder in the institution have reached critical proportions, especially since the beginning of the full-scale war. No less disturbing facts confirms Andriy Didenko, expert of the Kharkiv Human Rights Protection Group. He notes that in such an institution as the pre-trial detention center, no event takes place without the knowledge of the management. The head of the detention center and his first deputy control all the processes that take place there, and without their consent, such criminal schemes simply could not exist. Human rights defender Eduard Bagirov also adds that Volodymyr Halavka, the current head of Lukyanivskyi SIZO, is not suitable for his position. He claims that the situation has only worsened under his leadership, and the head of the detention center is doing nothing to correct it. Halavka has a controversial reputation. Before being appointed to this position, he headed Sofiyiv correctional colony No. 45, which was called the «death colony». Under his leadership, violence, corruption and lawlessness reigned there. The colony was a place where seriously ill prisoners were sent, and where the administration profited from the drug and alcohol trade through inmate «supervisors». All these processes were coordinated by the colony leadership, and Volodymyr Halavka played a key role in this. «Among the tens of hundreds of pre-trial detention centers, the Kyiv pre-trial detention center can be called a VIP pre-trial detention center. The risk of corruption and the financial ability to solve any issues — yes, the Kyiv pre-trial detention center has more such opportunities. But this issue is managed by the administration headed by the chief. You will have to negotiate immediately: where the conditions are improved for the rich, torture is often the case for ordinary detainees. Reports of beatings and even death in Lukyanivskyi SIZO, unfortunately, are constantly coming in. In the Kyiv SIZO, so-called bystanders, sycophants, various people who cooperate with the administration beat people and demand money from them. And the administration knows about it.» – stated human rights defender Eduard Bagirov. «You can immediately be placed in very bad conditions, where there is no way of life. And then, let’s say, not to demand, but to push you to pay and go, we will transfer you to another cell, where the conditions are better. As far as I know, these chambers of destruction are specially kept, let’s say so, to extort funds», — says Oleg Tsvily, a member of the Public Council under the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine. Illegal «prison price lists» that recently appeared in the media also confirm the situation in Lukyanivskyi SIZO. According to these data, a quarter gram of methadone costs 1.5 thousand hryvnias there, although in reality there are no fixed prices. Depending on the inmate’s ability to pay, prices can vary, and if someone has no money, they can be given a «discount», but with the obligation to pay back the debt with interest. The public expects that the law enforcement officers will not stop only at searches and that the investigation will not end only with the arrest of minor perpetrators. Corruption and violence in Lukyanivskyi SIZO have long gone beyond ordinary prison crime. All these schemes can exist only because of impunity and support at the highest levels of management of the penitentiary system. It is important not to allow the publicity of this case to gradually fade away. Public activists and human rights defenders are already calling for a further investigation not only into the facts of drug trafficking, but also into corruption in the pre-trial detention center management. If this case is brought to an end, it may be the beginning of real changes in the penitentiary system of Ukraine, which has long been in need of radical reform. Society expects not just another high-profile search, but a real cleansing of the Lukyaniv Prison from corruption schemes, violence and drug trafficking. Time will tell whether this case will be a turning point, and we will continue to follow the development of events.

In the USA, the U4U program, which allowed Ukrainians to receive temporary protection and legal status in the country, has been temporarily suspended. This decision complicated the migration process, since now Ukrainian citizens can enter the US only on general grounds, without special simplified procedures. Donald Trump’s administration, which has taken a course to tighten immigration policy, has blocked the approval of new applications for entry for immigrants, which also affected Ukrainians who were hoping to participate in the program. The change in rules caused concern among Ukrainians who were considering the US as a possible option for relocation. At the same time, it forces potential migrants to look for other ways to legally stay in the country. Despite the suspension of U4U, proven ways to obtain visas and legal entry remain, including non-immigrant and immigrant visas. For a temporary stay in the United States, you can obtain a nonimmigrant visa, which allows entry for a specific purpose. These categories include the B-1/B-2 visitor visa for tourism or business meetings, the F-1 student visa for study, the J-1 visa for exchange programs, the C1/D transit visa for crew members, and the K-1 visa for brides of US citizens. There are also temporary employment visas, including the H-1B, which is issued to highly skilled workers with a college degree and significant work experience. Travel and Business Visa (B-1/B-2) – suitable for tourist trips, visiting relatives or friends, attending business meetings, conferences, and short-term medical treatment. A student visa (F-1) is required for those who plan to study at higher educational institutions in the United States or take English language courses. Allows you to legally reside in the country during the entire period of study. Visa for participants of exchange programs (J-1) — intended for persons participating in cultural, scientific or professional exchange programs. It is aimed at expanding international cooperation and cultural exchange. Crew Visa (C1/D) — Issued to air, sea, and river transportation workers transiting through the United States or working aboard ships and aircraft in the country. Fiancé Visa (K-1) – Allows the foreign fiancé or fiancée of a US citizen to come to the country to marry. Within 90 days of arrival, the couple must officially register their relationship. Temporary work visa (H-1B) — created for workers in highly specialized fields where in-depth theoretical or technical knowledge is required. Only highly qualified professionals with a bachelor’s degree or higher and at least three years of professional experience can apply. The application process for a nonimmigrant visa involves several steps. First, you need to choose the appropriate visa type, fill out the online DS-160 form, pay the consular fee and make an appointment for a visa interview at the US embassy or consulate. During the interview, you must provide all the necessary documents and answer the officer’s questions about the purpose of the trip, financial status and intentions to return to your homeland. For those planning to move to the US permanently, immigrant visas are available to allow you to stay in the country legally, obtain a residence permit, and later apply for citizenship. One of the most popular options is to participate in the Green Card lottery, which is run annually by the US government. After winning this visa, you can get a permit for permanent residence and legal work in the country. Another option is to obtain a work visa based on employment. There are four main categories of immigrant work visas in the US: E1 for outstanding professionals, E2 for highly educated professionals, E3 for skilled and unskilled workers, and E4 for certain special categories of applicants. Entrepreneurs who are ready to open a business in the US or invest in the country’s economy also have the option of immigration. For this, there is the EB-5 program, which requires a minimum investment of $1,050,000 or $800,000 in areas with high unemployment. Foreign nationals may also apply for family reunification if their immediate family members are US citizens or residents. Another way to get a residence permit in the USA is to grant political asylum. Ukrainians can submit a corresponding application if they prove that they were persecuted in their country for political, religious or social reasons. Despite the cancellation of the U4U program, Ukrainians have a number of opportunities for legal migration to the United States. It is important to carefully study the available options, consult with lawyers and be responsible when choosing a visa program to avoid risks and problems with your stay in the country.
