A court in France ordered Russia to pay Oschadbank $1.5 billion in compensation for the annexation of Crimea

The Paris Court of Appeal confirmed the decision of 2018, by which the Russian Federation is obliged to pay the state-owned Oschadbank $1.5 billion as compensation for losses caused by the annexation of Crimea, and additionally charged the Russian Federation with 300,000. “The decision of the Court of Appeal of Paris, as well as the recent seizure by Oschadbank of Russian assets in France in the amount of more than EUR87 million, which took place recently, are part of the bank’s systematic work to compensate for the losses caused by the aggressor.” – emphasized Serhiy Naumov, the chairman of the board of Oschadbank.
Supervisory board member Roza Tapanova clarified that the amount of compensation awarded for recovery exceeds $1.5 billion, and Oschadbank will continue to use all possible legal means to enforce this decision and receive funds from Russia.
“We understand that the Russian Federation will never voluntarily comply with the court’s decision, and we are determined to fight for a long time. At the same time, we are sure that we will win, and Russia will pay not only the amount of the damages, but also the interest for all this time.” – Arsen Milyutin, deputy chairman of the board, commented on the situation.
He also emphasized that the bank is not resting on its laurels and continues to collect substantiated evidence for further recovery of compensation for new losses that occurred as a result of full-scale aggression from 2022.
It will be recalled that in April of this year, Oschadbank registered the seizure of Russian assets in France in the amount of approximately EUR87 million within the scope of the compensation case for lost property on the territory of the annexed Crimea.
