Representatives of American public organizations, activists and concerned citizens who support Ukraine, on Sunday spent mass rally near the Lincoln Memorial in downtown Washington. The event was held under the slogan “We stand for American values, we support Ukraine.”
“Americans understand that our values are the same – they are universal. These are the values of freedom, democracy, and human rights. So here we want to draw attention to the fact that Ukraine is now choosing them in a difficult confrontation.” – noted the co-organizer of the event, the president of United Help Ukraine Maryna Baidyuk.
She added that the rally opens a series of events within the framework of the Ukrainian Action Summit, which will last in Washington until April 9. As part of the summit, about 600 delegates from all US states plan to meet with congressmen and senators to discuss further support for Ukraine. According to Baidyuk, the rally was included in the summit program at the numerous requests of Americans who wanted to express their solidarity with the Ukrainian people.
The leader of the delegations from the states of Missouri and Montana Marichka Glyten noted that the participants of the rally came to the Lincoln Memorial with various messages addressed to the American authorities. According to her, special attention is paid to the recent murders of Ukrainian children and civilians committed by Russia. She emphasized that it is unacceptable to negotiate a truce when the Russian side is guided exclusively by force.
“Of course, we agree with US President Donald Trump’s vision of peace through strength, but at least Ukraine and America should set the conditions together. Russia constantly violates signed agreements, and our goal is to convey that the Russians cannot be trusted.” – remarked the activist.
The rally was co-organized by the American Coalition for Ukraine, United Help Ukraine, Nova Ukraine, Razom for Ukraine and the Ukrainian National Women’s League of America.
