A new EU ombudsman has been elected in Europe

On December 17, the European Parliament elected a new European Ombudsman for the next five years. The position will be taken by Teresa Anginho, who is a member of the Supervisory Board of the European Anti-Fraud Office. About this informs Political.
Anginho was approved by a majority of votes during a vote in the European Parliament in Strasbourg. She represented the center-right European People’s Party, the largest political group in the parliament.
Prior to that, Anginho held the position of Deputy Ombudsman of Portugal, and also worked as State Secretary for Justice. She will officially begin her duties on February 27, 2025.
The role of the European Ombudsman is to ensure transparency in the work of the EU institutions and fight against potential conflicts of interest, in particular between industrial corporations and European institutions. It should be noted that the Ombudsman’s decisions are advisory in nature and are not binding.
