A New York court barred the US government from selling a Russian oligarch’s yacht: details

A court in New York has prohibited the US government from selling the 106-meter yacht Amadea, which belongs to the sanctioned Russian oligarch Suleiman Kerimov. This decision means that American taxpayers will continue to finance the maintenance of the luxury vessel, which costs a budget of 740 thousand dollars every month.

As written “Voice of America”, the US Department of Justice sought to sell the impounded yacht to offset the costs of maintaining and insuring it. However, another Russian oligarch, Eduard Khudainatov, who is not under sanctions, has claimed his rights to Amadea. American authorities consider him a figurehead for Kerimov.

The court recognized that $740,000 per month is not an “excessive” amount of expenses and prohibited the government from holding an auction of the yacht until the property conflict between Khudainatov and Kerimov is resolved.

The US administration planned to transfer to Ukraine the money received from the sale of “Amadea”, the value of which is estimated at approximately 230 million dollars.
