A plant for the production of 155-mm projectiles for supply to Ukraine was opened in the USA: details

In the city of Mesquite, Texas, a new plant of the American defense company General Dynamics opened, which specializes in the production of 155-mm artillery shells.

About this informs The New York Times.

The enterprise, built by the American defense company General Dynamics in a record 10 months, will be an important step in meeting the needs of Ukraine and strengthening the US’s own defense potential.

The plant, which cost more than $500 million, is equipped with advanced technology and automation that will allow it to produce about 30,000 shells every month when it reaches full capacity. This will significantly increase the total production of artillery ammunition in the United States and help to meet the needs of Ukraine, which is actively using such shells in the war against Russian soldiers.

In February 2022, the US provided Ukraine with more than three million 155-mm shells. However, given the intensity of hostilities, the need for such ammunition remains high. The opening of the new plant will allow the US to increase supplies and provide stable support to Ukraine.

In addition to its military significance, the new plant will have a positive impact on the local economy, creating about 350 new jobs in Mesquite, it said.
