Andrey Portnov shot dead in Madrid: Reuters

On May 21, Andrii Portnov, the former deputy head of Viktor Yanukovych’s administration, was shot dead in Madrid. About this informs Reuters.

The attack took place around 09:15 local time on May 21 in a prestigious area of ​​Madrid, near the American School. At the time of the attack, Portnov was bringing his children to school. An unknown man on a motorcycle was already waiting for him near the gate. When the car approached, the attacker opened fire, after which he fled the scene.

Portnov was driving a Mercedes and was dropping off children when he was attacked. He was shot five times – in the head and back. A shot to the head turned out to be fatal. Two or three people could have been involved in the attack. At this time, local police have not released detailed information about the type of weapon used in the killing.

It will be recalled that Andriy Portnov held the position of Deputy Head of the Administration of the President of Ukraine during the reign of Viktor Yanukovych, who was removed during the Revolution of Dignity in 2014. After the overthrow of the regime, Portnov left Ukraine and returned only in 2019. It was under the sanctions of the European Union, and from 2021 – under the sanctions of the United States. The American authorities consider him involved in corruption and attempts to influence the judicial system of Ukraine.
