The following events are celebrated on April 21:

The day of the foundation of Rome – April 21, 753 BC is considered the founding day of Rome – one of the oldest cities in Europe, the capital of an ancient civilization. This day in Rome is always festive – there is a symbolic opening of the city gates so that the residents of Rome and numerous tourists can enter.

According to legend, Rome was founded by twin brothers Romulus and Remus. They were raised by a she-wolf and, of course, they had a wolf character. Later, Romulus killed Remus precisely on April 21 on the Palatine Hill and became the first king. However, scientists claim that the version of the origin of the name of the city on behalf of its legendary founder is good, but not scientifically proven.

Rome is the only city in the world that has another sovereign state on its territory – the Vatican.

World Day of Creativity and Innovation – the international day of the United Nations, the date of its establishment is associated with the International Day of Mother Earth, which is celebrated on April 22, as well as with the birthday of the great scientist, thinker and inventor Leonardo da Vinci, which is celebrated on April 15. In the first case, the link is to talk about the possibilities of creativity and innovation in the matter of creation and preservation of the Earth, and in the other – about the contribution of a great scientist to the development of science and creative processes.

World Crane Day — the holiday is aimed at raising awareness of the importance of preserving the crane, a member of the long-legged and long-eared bird family, which is under critical threat of extinction.

On April 21, 2010, in Kharkiv, the President of Ukraine, Viktor Yanukovych, and his Russian counterpart, Dmytro Medvedev, signed the “Agreement between the Russian Federation and Ukraine on the Stay of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation on the Territory of Ukraine.” The document provided for the extension of the presence of the Russian military base in Crimea for 25 years from May 28, 2017, and also provided Kyiv with a discount on gas, based on the terms of the gas agreements signed by Kyiv and Moscow in 2009.
