April 25: holidays and events on this day

April 25 is celebrated:
DNA Day is celebrated in honor of the recognition of the importance of genetics and the scientific achievements made in this field. On this day in 1953, scientists James Watson and Francis Crick, together with Maurice Wilkins and Rosalind Franklin, published the results of research into the structure of the DNA molecule in the journal Nature. 50 years later, in 2003, it was announced that the project to decipher the human genome was close to completion. Determining the structure of human genes is an important step for the development of health care.
International Financial Independence Day is dedicated to informing people about the importance of financial independence and the steps needed to achieve it. The day inspires everyone who wants to secure their financial future by promoting planning and action towards financial freedom.
World Malaria Day – launched by the World Health Organization at its 60th session in May 2007. Dedicated to the promotion of global efforts to ensure an effective fight against malaria – an infectious disease that is transmitted to humans during the bites of one of the species of Anopheles mosquitoes. Of the more than 400 different species of Anopheles mosquitoes, about 30 species are malaria vectors.
World Penguin Day – this day falls on the period when penguins migrate to the mainland for the purpose of mating and hatching eggs. The purpose of this day is to draw the attention of humanity to the importance of preserving penguins as an animal species, to emphasize the threat of penguin extinction, which is to some extent related to human activity, to involve various organizations in overcoming the problem.
Events on this day:
1926 – the debut of Alfiero Maserati’s first car took place – “Tiro 26”, which was driven by the designer himself, he won the competition in Targa Florio (Italy);
1940 – women of the province of Quebec receive the right to vote in elections;
1994 – The National Council for Television and Radio Broadcasting was established by decree of the President of Ukraine;
1997 – Due to an error by programmers in Florida, the world wide Internet suffers the biggest failure in history.
On April 25, 1901, in the state of New York, for the first time in the world, car numbers were introduced.
Of course, at first there were no standardized license plates, and each car owner had to make them himself. Later, all car owners were required to register their names and address, as well as to provide a description of their car, after which they were given a small plate with the owner’s initials on it.
In the first year, 954 plates were issued, they cost $1 at the time, and the government plate with the number “1” was awarded to a gentleman named Frederick Tudor. Already in our time, more than a hundred years later, his descendant registered a car under this number.
There is evidence that the first autonomers in Europe were issued in 1899 in Munich (there is even a legend about the first sign – one rich German decided to demonstrate his love for his wife by ordering an exclusive number “IA1”, where the letters denote the initials of his beloved, and the unit symbolizes the fact that she occupies the first place in his life). After that, they appeared in other major capitals: in Paris in 1900, in London in 1903. However, the French themselves claim that the first license plate was installed on a car in the capital of France back in 1893 – a police order required all cars operating in Paris to be equipped with license plates.
The Netherlands became the first country in the world to introduce a national uniform standard for car number plates.
Great Britain has not changed the numbering scheme of license plates since the creation of the state register of vehicles in 1903. That is why today on its roads you can meet cars with license plates that were first issued more than 100 years ago. For example, a car with an S1 number (believed to be the first car number issued in Scotland). This number plate was sold at auction in 2008 for £400,000. This is what the inviolability of private property means!
The first to use a stamped metal license plate were Americans in West Virginia in 1921. Now this technology is used by all countries of the world.
To attention:
The most expensive car license plate in history was bought for $14 million in the UAE. This is a plate with a single number – 1, and the car on which this number is installed cost “only” 300,000 dollars! In Great Britain there are two cars on which, when they are standing next to each other, you can read the eternal “To be or not to be”. Roman Abramovich bought himself a “Vip 1” number. Initially, this number was supposed to reach John Paul II during the preparation of his visit to Northern Ireland. But the clergyman refused to change his license plate, so this plate was put up for auction.
There are enough similar numbers in Ukraine as well. The sum of the numbers 21 or 777 is believed to bring good luck. Here they stand or luck… expensive.
