As a result of the flu epidemic in Taiwan, a record number of people fell ill in the last 10 years

Nearly 140,000 Taiwanese people went to hospitals because of the flu, which was the highest number for this period in the past 10 years. About this informs Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Taiwan.
“The number of hospital admissions with flu-like illnesses last week rose to 139,613 – the highest for the same period in a decade. At the same time, 49 serious cases of illness and 10 deaths from influenza were registered.”– says the message.
The H1N1 strain, better known as swine flu, dominates the island. The flu season in Taiwan started on October 1, 2024, and since then, 461 cases of serious complications and 101 deaths have been reported. Doctors urge residents to get vaccinated against the flu as soon as possible.
The outbreak is expected to peak before the Chinese Lunar New Year. This year it falls on January 29, and the celebration will last from January 25 to 31. The CDC predicts that during the holiday week, the number of illnesses could exceed 150,000 cases.
