Biden declares US readiness for talks with Russia, China and DPRK to contain nuclear threat

US President Joe Biden has announced that the United States is ready to hold talks with Russia, China and North Korea to reduce the nuclear threat. The meetings can take place without preconditions, which underscores the US openness to dialogue on global security. This was announced by the White House.

This statement was made during Biden’s speech to the Nobel Peace Prize winners, where he stressed the importance of working together to reduce nuclear arsenals. The President stressed that blocking progress in this direction is not beneficial either for the countries concerned or for the whole world.

‘These nuclear risks undermine the norms and agreements we have worked together to establish and contradict the vital work of today’s Nobel laureates,’ Biden said.

He also recalled his visit to Hiroshima last year, where he had the opportunity to speak with a nuclear bombing survivor. This meeting reminded Biden of the importance of continuing to fight for a world without nuclear weapons.

‘We must work to one day rid the world of nuclear weapons forever,’ the president added.

Today, nine countries possess nuclear weapons: The United States, Russia, China, the United Kingdom, France, India, Pakistan, North Korea and Israel. There are also reports of Iran and North Korea’s intentions to continue developing nuclear weapons. Recently, DPRK leader Kim Jong-un announced the possibility of using nuclear weapons in case of an invasion of the country.
