By the end of January next year, the gun permit will be displayed in Diia: HOME OFFICE

Deputy Interior Minister Leonid Tymchenko said during the national telethon of the United News that by the end of January next year, gun permits will be available in Diia. Since the launch of the Unified Register of Weapons on 23 June 2023, the police have received more than 483,000 applications for permits, of which more than 469,000 have been approved.
‘In total, more than 1 million 400 thousand weapons are currently registered with the National Police of Ukraine. More than 750,000 or more than 50% of the weapons registered by the National Police are included in the Unified Register of Weapons,’ Tymchenko said.
He clarified that the register will be fully digital only when all paper permits are transferred to electronic format. Since such permits are valid for three years, the full transition is expected in June 2026.
However, by January 2025, electronic gun permits will be available in Diia along with information about registered weapons for those owners whose paper documents are still valid but have already been digitised.
The electronic permit in Diia will have a QR code that will allow you to verify its authenticity.
‘In fact, we are talking about a full-fledged digital record of the movement of weapons from the supplier or importer, or from a business entity – in particular, a store where you can buy weapons, through the permit system, through the expert service units where the weapons are fired, to the owner, and then to its registration and re-registration. All actions that take place with this weapon are fully reflected in the Unified Register of Weapons,’ Timchenko explained.
The exception will be permits for award weapons, as they do not have an expiration date and their transfer to electronic format is not mandatory.
