Creative ways to avoid mobilization: unusual tricks of Ukrainians that shock
Some men are willing to go to extreme measures to avoid getting to the front, and one of the most radical ways is to deliberately injure themselves.
According to open sources of information and Ukrainian mass media, the service of “bone breakers” is becoming more and more popular in Dnipro. In fact, they are specialists with a medical education who break their clients’ arms and legs under anesthesia in order to provide them with a reprieve from mobilization. After that, a cast on the limbs guarantees that the person will be temporarily left alone by the employees of the territorial procurement centers.
Depending on the severity of the injury (and the price, respectively), such measures can provide Ukrainians with several months without service. If this is not enough, then the procedure can be repeated with a discount. Advertisements for these services appeared on Ukrainian online boards, where it is noted that they are provided quickly and professionally with the use of anesthesia and support during the rehabilitation period. A few days after the announcement, all such messages were deleted from the network.
However, this is only one of the ways that Ukrainians resort to to avoid mobilization, because special masks imitating the faces of old men are also actively sold. Such masks, costing from UAH 450, allow young men to disguise themselves as pensioners, to whom mobilization does not apply.
Other scams include the services of lawyers who promise to “remove” the draft, even if the client is not eligible for a deferral. In Kharkiv, the cost of a lawyer’s departure when a conscript is detained by TCC employees costs $1,500 in some law firms.
Some companies offer work in a taxi or delivery (Glovo, Raketa) with a guarantee that employees will not be disturbed by TCC employees.
Also sold are “cheat sheets” with a regulatory and legal framework for interaction with the TCC and the police, and escort services to a store or for a haircut at a hairdresser, where there will be no checks. There is even an opportunity to get a volunteer certificate for a charitable contribution, which can also provide a temporary reprieve from mobilization.
All these initiatives only show that Ukrainians are ready to take various measures to avoid being drafted to the front. This reflects the complexity of the situation in a country where many see no other option but to resort to extreme measures to protect their lives and freedom.
