Dangerous avocados came to Ukraine from Peru

A dangerous batch of avocados was brought to Ukraine from Peru, in which an excessive content of the toxic element – cadmium was found. About this reported in its report European Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed.
The fruits were found to exceed twice the legal limit for cadmium, and the system indicated a high level of health risk if consumed. It is noted that the avocados came from the Netherlands, and the country of origin is Peru. Currently, there are no data on the distribution of a dangerous product in Ukraine.
Within the EU, they decided to destroy a dangerous product after the supplier reported exceeding the permissible level of cadmium. The first warning about the threat appeared in the system on April 2. The report emphasizes that the use of this product poses a serious danger to humans.
The exporter was a company from Peru, but there are no specific data on the Ukrainian importer in the available documentation. There is only information that delivery to Ukraine has already taken place or could potentially take place.
European regulators warn: cadmium has neither smell nor taste, so poisoning with it can go unnoticed. In case of accumulation in the body, this element affects the gastrointestinal tract, lungs, kidneys and nervous system.
Cadmium enters the fruit through contaminated soil or water. It is not removed from the body naturally and accumulates over time, causing chronic diseases and increasing the risk of developing cancer. Experts urge to carefully check the origin of imported fruits and vegetables. If you have doubts about the quality of the product, it is better to refrain from consuming it.
