Denmark plans to significantly speed up arms supplies to the Armed Forces of Ukraine

Denmark plans to create an international fund for targeted financing of Ukraine’s defense industry in order to accelerate the production of weapons and military equipment directly in the country. This was announced by the Minister of Defense of Denmark Troels Lund Poulsen in interview for Bloomberg.

Poulsen expressed the opinion that the production of weapons in Europe and the United States is too slow, and Ukraine could build up its defense capabilities much faster if it produced more weapons on its territory. He noted that the production of military equipment in Ukraine will make it possible to reduce the time for supplying weapons from several years to several months.

“In recent years, we have taken many initiatives to increase the production of various military equipment [in the US and Europe]. But in general, we do not have the same pace of production of military equipment as in Ukraine.”Poulsen emphasized.

Denmark is now actively working on the creation of a fund that will combine public and private investments to finance the Ukrainian military-industrial complex. Poulsen noted that the first steps in this direction have already been taken — in July, the production of 18 “Bohdan” artillery units was financed, which were handed over to the Ukrainian military two months later.

The Minister also emphasized that production in Ukraine is not only faster, but also more cost-effective, as the equipment is easier to maintain. Despite the high potential, the Ukrainian defense industry remains significantly underutilized due to a lack of funding.

Denmark is considering the possibility of creating a special fund by the end of the year, which will be an important step in the direction of supporting Ukraine in its efforts to strengthen its own defense capabilities.
