Employment prospects for Ukrainian refugees in EU countries: job search in 2024

Employment conditions for Ukrainian refugees in the EU in 2024 differ in different countries. At a time when many of the EU countries have simplified their rules for employment of Ukrainians, the quality of conditions and opportunities in the labor market in others have become more difficult. Where is it easier to find a quality job and in which countries may there be difficulties with employment?

Employment abroad is becoming an important component of Ukrainian refugees’ adaptation to new living conditions in other countries. In most EU countries, from 40% to 60% of our citizens who have received temporary protection work officially. However, not all citizens are satisfied with the working conditions and benefits offered by employers.

According to with a report of the European Commission, the best employment conditions for Ukrainian refugees in the following cities:

  • – Prague (Czech Republic);
  • – Cluj-Napoca (Romania);
  • – Munich and Hamburg (Germany);
  • – Bratislava (Slovakia);;
  • – Oslo (Norway);
  • – Stockholm (Sweden);
  • – Warsaw (Poland);
  • – Sofia (Bulgaria);
  • – Tallinn (Estonia).

Also, the cities with the best employment opportunities for Ukrainian refugees are Munich, Hamburg, Bratislava, Oslo, Stockholm, Prague and Warsaw. Some experts also mention Romania, but the average salary in this country is quite low.

In some countries, such as: Italy, Spain and Greece, finding a job can be difficult due to different conditions, but it is also worth noting that some EU countries have, on the contrary, simplified employment conditions, especially for Ukrainians. Including:

  1. Germany: employment is possible after six months of stay. Here, even without knowledge of the language, there are many vacancies in warehouses and factories. Ukrainians can work as drivers, builders, cleaners, janitors, etc., without too much difficulty.
  2. Netherlands: employment opportunities without knowledge of the language in production, harvesting and greenhouses.
  3. Norway: offers high wages in addition to simplified employment conditions. Welders, construction workers, production workers and drivers receive an average of 2,500-4,000 euros per month.
  4. Poland: Many jobs in the hotel and restaurant business and construction, as well as demand for qualified teachers and medical personnel.
  5. France: There are many jobs in agriculture and engineering. However, knowledge of the French language is required for employment.

Migration trends among Ukrainians, especially for the purpose of changing the country of temporary asylum, are increasing due to changes in the conditions of stay and financial support.
