European countries discuss possibility of purchasing weapons for Ukraine from the US

European countries are discussing the possibility of purchasing American weapons at their own expense and then transferring them to Ukraine. This option is being considered against the background of growing fears that the United States may completely stop supplying weapons to Kyiv. About this informs Bloomberg,
In Europe itself, there are not enough weapons stocks and production capacities to independently provide the Ukrainian army in sufficient volume. At the same time, the Trump administration not only makes it clear that it does not plan to transfer weapons to Kyiv in the future, but also does not support initiatives to strengthen sanctions against Russia.
Sources note that among the EU countries, the option of direct purchase of weapons from the USA is increasingly being discussed, despite political signals from Washington. Such an approach could allow Ukraine to maintain its defense capabilities, even if the White House decides to cut military aid.
“If Trump decides not to transfer weapons to Ukraine, Europe will do it. It can become a tool both for deterring the Russian offensive and for putting pressure on Putin to incline him to negotiate a cease-fire.” Bloomberg sources said.
It is also noted that US allies expect at least the preservation of intelligence exchange between Washington and Kyiv. The temporary suspension of this exchange, which took place recently, not only complicated the operational activities of Ukrainian forces, but also caused concern among US partners about the reliability of American support in the long term.
Analysts predict that the arms supply financed by the Biden administration may end this summer, after which it will be difficult for Ukraine to fill the gap. This opens a new window of opportunity for Russia, and the Kremlin, according to experts, will try to take advantage of this situation.
