Events in the Kursk region under control: Klymenko on the role of the military commandant’s office
Ukraine’s actions on the territory of the Kursk region of the Russian Federation emphasize that the Ukrainian state is responsible and adheres to international obligations. This was stated by the Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko during a speech at the Congress of local and regional authorities in Kropyvnytskyi.
Klymenko emphasized that Ukraine did not occupy these territories and did not establish any authority. A military commandant operates in the controlled regions, which provides humanitarian support and medical assistance to the people who remained in place. The minister emphasized that this is not only a question of humanity, but also the implementation of the Geneva Conventions, which shows the responsibility of the Ukrainian state.
According to Klymenko, the military together with the police and emergency services provide the population, which mainly consists of elderly people, with the necessary products, medicines and other vital resources. Among them are cancer patients and diabetes patients who need constant medical care. The Ukrainian authorities cannot leave them without help.
The military commandant’s office, headed by Major-General Eduard Moskalev, ensures the full functioning of the regions where the defense operation of the Ukrainian troops continues.
As you know, the offensive operation of the Defense Forces of Ukraine in the Kursk region began on August 6, 2024. On August 15, a military commandant’s office was established in the territories under control, and on August 20, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrsky announced that Ukrainian troops control over 1,260 square kilometers of territory and 93 settlements in the Kursk region.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyi noted that the operation in the Kursk region contributes to the destruction of the logistics of the Russian army and the depletion of their reserves.
