Fico accused Zelensky of intimidating world leaders who gathered in Moscow on May 9

Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fico blamed President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi in an attempt to intimidate leaders who plan to take part in the May 9 events in Moscow.

This is Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s statement from May 3, in which he noted that Ukraine is unable to guarantee the safety of representatives of other states during their participation in celebrations on the territory of Russia, taking into account possible provocations from the Russian side.

“They (the Russians) provide you with security, and therefore we will not give any guarantees.” – added the President of Ukraine.

According to Fico, such words sound like “threats to the heads of states and prime ministers of countries where millions of people live.” He stated that such rhetoric is unacceptable.

“I reject such threats for security reasons. I fully respect the fact that the safety of the participants is an internal matter of the Russian Federation. But if Mr. Zelensky believes that his shouts will make foreign delegations not come, then he is deeply mistaken. But I had to convey my condemnation of this way of speaking.” – stressed the head of the government of Slovakia.

In response, the Ukrainian embassy in Slovakia expressed regret over the anti-Ukrainian statements of the prime minister. Instead of making accusations against President Zelensky — this time regarding alleged attempts at intimidation — diplomats advised to read his statements more carefully. The appeal emphasizes that Zelensky only warned about the possibility of Russian provocations on May 9 and the impossibility of guaranteeing the safety of the delegations due to the risk of shifting responsibility to Ukraine.
