EU and the world

For the first time, solar energy surpassed coal in terms of generation in the EU

For the first time in its history, the European Union received more energy from solar power plants than from burning coal. Such data leads Ember, a think tank that researches EU climate policy.

“Solar power became the main factor in reducing the use of fossil fuels in 2024. It provided 11.1% of electricity in the EU (304 TWh), surpassing coal for the first time (269 TWh)”, – the message says.

Solar energy production continues to grow in EU countries. In 2024, solar and wind farms provided a record 29% of the EU’s electricity demand. Gas power plants provided 15.7%, coal – 9.8%, nuclear power – 23.7%, and hydropower – 13.2%. Renewable energy sources already account for almost half (47%) of the total electricity production in the EU.

We will remind that in the United Arab Emirates, the world’s first 24-hour renewable energy facility was launched. It combines solar panels with an advanced battery, providing a continuous supply of clean energy day and night.
