France’s public debt hits record high

France’s public debt has reached an unprecedented level, Prime Minister Francois Bayrou said. About this informs BFMTV.
“Never in its history has France had such a large debt. The debt hung over France like the sword of Damocles.” – Bairu noted during his speech at the National Assembly.
He emphasized that during the presidency of Emmanuel Macron, the public debt increased by 12%, and emphasized the need to start reducing external debt. According to the prime minister, the lack of funding has a negative impact on all areas, including education, health care, culture and support for France’s overseas territories.
Bairu also announced that he will present the draft budget for 2025 to the parliament by the end of the month. In the meantime, the country will operate under a special law that provides funding for state programs within the 2024 budget.
It was previously reported that France’s public debt exceeded 3.3 trillion euros, which is 113.7% of GDP. For comparison, in 2003, the country’s debt was about 1 trillion euros.
