German fighters intercept Russian reconnaissance plane near Polish borders

Fighter jets of the German Air Force intercepted a Russian Il-20M reconnaissance aircraft in the sky near the northern border of Poland over the Baltic Sea. About this informs Picture.

The incident happened in the morning of June 27. At 9:02 a.m. local time, NATO radars detected a Russian Il-20M reconnaissance aircraft taking off from Kaliningrad and moving through international airspace without activated transponders and without radio communication.

Half an hour later, at 9:32, two German Eurofighter fighters took off from the base in Laz, and made visual contact with the plane about 100 km from the German coast. After that, the IL-20M continued its course to the west, and at a distance of 40 km from the island of Usedom, it changed direction and flew to the north. He did not violate German airspace.

Since the beginning of the year, NATO has already responded nine times by raising fighter jets due to the approach of Russian planes. Cases of violation of the airspace of the member countries of the Alliance have become more frequent.

In particular, in May, an Su-24 was intercepted performing dangerous maneuvers near the Polish border. And also due to the violation of Estonian airspace by the Su-35 aircraft, the incident occurred near the Yuminda Peninsula. In June, the British Royal Air Force intercepted another Russian reconnaissance plane over the Baltic Sea that had entered Polish airspace.
