Germany refused to confirm Trump’s statement about sending Patriot to Ukraine

The German government refused to confirm US President Donald Trump’s statement that the first Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems had already left for Ukraine from the territory of Germany. About this informs SRF.

“I cannot confirm that something is currently on its way to Ukraine. I am not aware of this.”, – said the spokesman of the Ministry of Defense of Germany.

He also announced that on Monday, July 21, a virtual meeting of the participating countries of the Ukrainian Defense Contact Group (UDCG) will be held, at which ways to accelerate the delivery of Patriot systems will be discussed.

It will be recalled that on July 16, US President Donald Trump said that the first Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems “are already being sent” to Ukraine. According to him, the weapons come from Germany and will be compensated by European partners.

“They’re already on their way”, – the American leader answered the journalists’ questions about the supply of these systems.

The US president explained that Germany is handing over missiles, after which it replenishes its stockpile. At the same time, according to him, the US will receive full compensation for the transferred resources.

“All costs will be covered. Partly through NATO, partly directly by the EU countries. We will always get our money back in full.”, – emphasized Trump.

He also added that after the announcement of a new package of sanctions against Russia on July 14, he had not yet had a conversation with Vladimir Putin.
