Germany: what will happen with aid to Ukraine?

Due to the lack of funds in the German budget, debates regarding military aid to Ukraine flared up in the country. As the newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung reports, only those funds that have already been approved will be provided to Kyiv, no further assistance is planned. It is about the fact that instead of money from the federal budget of the Federal Republic of Germany, funds from the frozen assets of the Russian Federation will be used. Observers in foreign media do not hide their skepticism.

Frankfurter Rundschau – Germany.

“The dispute among the members of the ruling coalition about the budget should not lead to the fact that Ukraine will be thrown into trouble.

The federal government intends to continue supporting Ukraine, but believes that the money for this should come from interest income from the frozen funds of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation. The only problem is that it is not yet clear when and exactly how this plan of the G7 countries can be implemented. If German military aid to Ukraine is significantly reduced for budgetary reasons, it will mean that, in the worst case scenario, the federal government will meet the demands of Sarah Wagenknecht’s Union and AdG. And this should not happen!”, – says the Frankfurter Rundschau.

The wPolityce portal anxiously follows the political situation in Germany:

“The combination of political instability and declining economic conditions could strengthen the forces in Germany that are serious about reaching an agreement with Russia – and dream of a return to the ‘good old days.'” This does not necessarily have to come in the form of a triumph AdG or Wagenknecht in the elections, a simple increase in the votes of these political groups is enough, because as a reaction to the mood in society, traditional parties can decide to revise their policy on the most important – at least for us – issue, namely the issue of how to treat Russia “, – the publication says.

La Repubblica – Italy.

“Evil tongues will say that Olaf Scholz has found a way to overcome his most dangerous rival – Minister of Defense Boris Pistorius. The latter is not only his fellow party member, but also, most importantly, the most popular politician in Germany for more than a year now. … However, the headline of the Sunday edition of the Frankfurter newspaper Allgemeine Zeitung confirms rumors that have been circulating for several days, namely that the government majority in Berlin has managed to reach another fragile agreement in the budget dispute. reduction of funds allocated for the needs of Ukraine”, – writes the publication.
