Hungarian intelligence will compile a “black list” of foreign-funded media

The Central Intelligence Agency of Hungary was tasked with preparing a list of Hungarian mass media that received any funding from abroad during the last ten years. About this informs VSquare.
The National Information Center — an intelligence agency that collects and analyzes information from all national security structures — received the relevant mandate. The main focus of Hungarian intelligence will be on human rights organizations and independent media that have received financial support from Europe or the US in the last decade.
At the same time, Chinese non-governmental organizations funded by the state registered in Hungary, as well as structures with possible Russian funding, will not fall into the field of view of the authorities, the material says. What is the ultimate goal of drawing up this list by Viktor Orbán’s government is still unclear.
This became known shortly after the speech of the Hungarian Prime Minister, in which he declared his intention to get rid of all those who, in his opinion, work for the interests of foreign countries.
“We are dismantling the financial machine that used corrupt dollars to buy politicians, judges, journalists, pseudo-NGOs and political activists. We are eliminating the entire shadow army”Orban said.
It will be recalled that at the end of 2023, Orbán achieved the adoption of the law on the establishment of the Office for the Protection of Sovereignty. This body should study and monitor potential threats of “political interference” in Hungary. The Sovereignty Law, passed in 2023, prohibits foreign funding of political parties or groups participating in elections and carries a penalty of up to three years in prison.
