In Donetsk region, Russian soldiers shot three captured servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Near the village of Novopil, which is part of the Velikonovosilkiv Territorial Community of the Volnova District of the Donetsk Region, Russian soldiers shot three Ukrainian prisoners of war. An investigation has been launched into the fact of the crime, informs the press service of the Donetsk regional prosecutor’s office.

Under the procedural leadership of the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office, a pre-trial investigation into the fact of a war crime that led to the death of people, according to part 2 Art. 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

On May 3, 2025, three servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were in combat positions near the village of Novopil of the Velikonovosilkiv Territorial Community of the Volnova District. During the assault, Ukrainian soldiers were surrounded, forced to lay down their arms and surrender. Realizing that the defenders did not pose a threat, the representatives of the armed forces of the Russian Federation shot them with automatic weapons.

Deliberate killing of prisoners of war is a gross violation of the provisions of the Geneva Conventions and is classified as a serious international crime. Currently, urgent investigative actions aimed at establishing all the circumstances of the crime and the persons involved in its commission are ongoing. The investigation is carried out by investigators of the Main Directorate of the Security Service of Ukraine in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
