In Germany, cases of infection with a new strain of monkeypox were recorded

Several cases of infection with the dangerous variant Ib of the “mpox” virus, also known as “monkey pox”, have been found in Germany. Due to an outbreak of illness among two students, one of the schools in the city of Resrath (Federal State of North Rhine-Westphalia) was closed for quarantine.

About this informs DW.

In addition to the two schoolchildren, the infection was confirmed in two more members of their family. According to preliminary information, one of them could have brought the virus after a trip to Africa and infected relatives. All four infected persons are currently in quarantine. Other students were temporarily transferred to distance learning.

The Robert Koch Institute in Berlin continues to assess the risk of this strain of monkeypox spreading among the German population as “low.”

“Transmission of “mpox” requires close physical contact”, – said the institute.

We will remind that two new cases of infection with this variant of the virus were discovered earlier in Great Britain. The country’s authorities are already preparing for the possible further spread of the disease.
