In Germany, schoolchildren and students will be taught the basics of defense against the backdrop of threats from the Russian Federation

The Ministry of the Interior of Germany is starting the implementation of a program aimed at familiarizing schoolchildren and students with the basics of defense and civil protection. Such a move is due to the growing risk of a large-scale military conflict in Europe and the likelihood of a Russian attack on NATO countries in the coming years. About this informs Handelsblatt.
The ministry emphasizes that in the conditions of the changed global security situation, there is a growing need to increase the level of preparedness of the population for emergency situations. Special attention is planned to be paid to young people – pupils and students.
“Due to recent changes in the security situation, more attention should be paid to civil protection, including schools and institutes”, — said the representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Germany.
At the level of the federal states, it is planned to introduce state courses on first aid and the basics of self-defense. Citizens are also advised to have a three-day supply of water, food and basic necessities at home — in accordance with EU directives on crisis preparedness.
At the same time, support for the idea of introducing a “national preparedness day” to raise public awareness of actions in the event of an emergency or war is growing in the German parliament.
Member of the Christian Democratic Union Roderich Kiesewetter praised the initiative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, stressing that youth is one of the most vulnerable categories in a crisis period and must be prepared.
“Our crisis preparedness structures are backward. We have almost no government stockpiles, storage facilities, or a stable crisis communication system.” – he claims.
For its part, the military also expresses concern. Bundeswehr Inspector General Carsten Breuer previously warned that Russia could be ready for aggression against NATO within 4-7 years. Against the background of these challenges, Germany is reviewing its security policy and intensifying measures to prepare for possible military and humanitarian threats.
