International laboratories have confirmed Russia’s use of chemical weapons against Ukraine

Two laboratories of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) have confirmed that the Russians are using grenades containing banned chemical substances in Ukraine. About this reported press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Experts of the OPCW analyzed the materials provided by Ukraine, in particular four Russian RG-Vo grenades, as well as samples of soil and grass. As a result, two independent certified laboratories confirmed that the evidence submitted contained CS, a substance used in riot control.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that Ukraine systematically informs the international community about Russia’s regular use of dangerous chemicals, in particular RG-Vo tear gas grenades. From February 2023 to February 2025, 6,129 cases of the use of ammunition with dangerous chemical substances by Russian forces, including 2-chlorobenzalmalononitrile (CS), chloroacetophenone (CN), as well as chloropicrin and mercaptans (malodorants), were recorded.
Such actions of the Russian Federation are a gross violation of paragraph 5 of Article 1 of the Convention on the prohibition of the development, production, stockpiling and use of chemical weapons, as well as their destruction.
“The next report of the OPCW testified to the systematic nature of Russia’s crimes, which purposefully destroys the foundations of the global security architecture and undermines the principles of non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.” – noted in the ministry.
