Lukashenko announces intention to find oil fields in Belarus

The leader of Belarus, Oleksandr Lukashenko, announced plans to find new oil fields in the country. During his speech at the “Dozhynky-2024” festival-fair in the village of Korma, in the Gomel region, Lukashenko announced an agreement with the head of Rosneft, Igor Sechin, regarding a serious study of the region’s territory in order to search for oil.

“We agreed with the head of Rosneft, Igor Sechin, that we will seriously “feel” the territories of the Gomel region. And we will definitely find oil there. In Soviet times, wells were drilled and abandoned.”, Lukashenko noted.

He also promised that the funds received from oil production will be directed to the development of the region.

Previously, Lukashenko made provocative statements about Ukraine, suggesting that the Ukrainian leadership “get a grip” and pay attention to its “close neighbors” instead of focusing on the United States. He also claimed that he received offers to “betray Russia” and support Ukraine, which he allegedly refused.
