Macron called for the suspension of EU investments in the US

French President Emmanuel Macron called on European companies to temporarily refrain from planned investments in the United States in response to Donald Trump’s decision to impose tariffs on foreign goods. About this informs Bloomberg.
At a meeting with French business representatives, Macron described the new trade measures as “brutal and groundless” and highlighted their potentially serious threat to Europe’s economy.
“What will be the message if the big European players are investing billions of euros in the US economy at the same time they are attacking us?” he said.
The French president noted that the American economy will become “weaker and poorer” as a result of the introduction of new tariffs, which, in his opinion, will cause a “massive impact” on the EU economy. He also called for European unity in forming a response to Washington’s actions, warning against unilateral actions by individual states.
Macron confirmed that the European Union’s response would be phased. The first step — a reaction to the current tariffs, in particular on steel and aluminum — is scheduled for mid-April. A second, more comprehensive response to the new tariffs announced by Trump is expected at the end of the month, after a sectoral analysis involving member states and representatives of the economy.
We will remind that on April 2, US President Donald Trump announced the introduction of new tariffs on the import of goods from almost all countries of the world.
