Meta has released AI glasses with the ability to record video in 3K format

Meta Platforms Inc. in partnership with Oakley presented a new generation of smart glasses with artificial intelligence — Performance AI, aimed at athletes and fans. The novelty has enhanced video recording capabilities in 3K format, informs the press service of the company.

The Oakley Meta HSTN model is equipped with a built-in camera, open speakers and an IPX4 level of moisture protection. It allows you to shoot hands-free videos in Ultra HD (3K) format, as well as listen to music or podcasts thanks to the audio system integrated into the frame. The glasses work up to eight hours on a full charge in active mode and up to 19 hours in standby mode. In addition, the device is equipped with a personal AI assistant that can answer various questions.

The Oakley Meta line combines Oakley’s signature aesthetic with Meta’s innovations aimed at improving athletic performance and capturing important moments. The limited-edition Oakley Meta HSTN will be available for pre-order starting July 11 for $499, with other models available in the summer for a starting price of $399. The glasses will go on sale in the USA, Canada, Great Britain, EU countries, Australia and Scandinavia. Expansion into the markets of Mexico, India and the UAE is expected by the end of the year.

The launch of a second eyewear brand has been in doubt since Meta’s first attempt, the Ray-Ban Stories model, failed in 2021. However, the updated version, released in 2023, turned out to be extremely successful. The display-less glasses are part of the company’s broader strategy. Meta also plans to introduce a more expensive version of the glasses later this year, equipped with a display that will allow viewing of messages.
