Children of war

“Miss Invincibility” Alexandra Pascal: an eight-year-old gymnast with a prosthesis conquers the world (video)

Among the high-profile stories of war and human resilience, there are those that make you stop and think about the strength of the spirit that can overcome the most terrible challenges. They not only inspire, but also impress with their boundless faith in life. Oleksandra Pascal, an eight-year-old gymnast from Chornomorsk, is a vivid example of how tragedy can be the impetus for great victories.

Its tragic story began in May 2022, when a Russian missile hit the Pascal family’s cottage in Zatoka in Odesa. The explosion took away the girl’s childhood, wounding her body, but not breaking her spirit. Sasha lost her leg, spent 15 days in a coma, but three months after the amputation she returned to her great love – artistic gymnastics.

Despite the injury, the girl not only resumed training, but also began competing on an equal footing with healthy children, proving to herself and the world that her dreams are stronger than any obstacles. In November 2024, at the “Rizatdinova Cup” tournament, the young athlete performed in front of an international audience. Her number with a prosthesis caused a standing ovation, and Sasha herself received the title of “Miss Invincibility”.

“We all need role models. Oleksandra Pascal is an example for me! An incredibly strong-willed, strong, purposeful and sincere girl. Sasha is a true personification of the indomitability of Ukraine.” wrote Olympic bronze medalist Anna Rizatdinova, who presented the award to the girl.

Dreams that lead forward

Despite all the difficulties, Sasha not only did not give up, but also continues to conquer sports peaks. She trains 5 times a week for 3 hours, competes on an equal footing with healthy children, engages in ballroom dancing and attends Olympic competitions. Her dream is to become an Olympic champion and a gymnastics coach.

“Training takes place 5 times a week. Lasts 3 hours. I train on a par with the other girls in the group. Sometimes it’s hard. Sometimes the stump hurts a lot when I wear the prosthesis, but I endure and go to work despite the pain. As our Inga Valeriivna says: “Sports require character, without it there will be no success.” Sasha said.

Her training continues even during air alarms: she takes balls and other equipment in the basement so as not to waste precious time.

A little fighter with a big heart

Sasha became a source of inspiration not only for Ukrainians, but also for many people around the world. Her videos are shown to defenders of Ukraine, motivating them to fight on. On Instagram, the girl receives thousands of words of support that strengthen her faith in herself and her strengths.

“If a child can do it, then an adult can do it even more.” says Sasha’s mother Maria.

These words sound like motivation for all of us! Sasha’s story is a reminder that even the darkest times cannot break the light in the hearts of Ukrainian children. The indomitability of this little gymnast is a symbol of the resilience of Ukraine, which, like Sasha, is fighting for its future. Oleksandra Pascal dreams of becoming an Olympic champion, and it seems that she has every chance to do so.
