New methods of combating domestic violence are being introduced in Ukraine

In Ukraine, new approaches to the fight against domestic violence are being implemented, aimed at strengthening preventive measures and involving social workers in the assessment of risks in families. About this informs Ministry of Social Policy.
“Last week, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine supported amendments to the basic law on combating domestic violence No. 10249, proposed by the Ministry of Social Policy. It is assumed that from now on, in cases of domestic violence, social specialists can actively promote family mediation.”, the message says.
From now on, social workers have the opportunity to more actively use family mediation tools in cases of domestic violence. In addition, the affected woman and the child are no longer obliged to remain married until the child reaches one year of age.
Risk assessment in families will now be carried out not only by law enforcement agencies, but also by social workers. This will allow a more complex approach to solving problems and prevent the recurrence of violence.
The main tasks here are to provide full support to the victims and conduct corrective work with offenders. For this purpose, 1,100 specialized services are already working in communities. Correctional programs for violent offenders are planned to be reviewed next year so that they can correct their behavior.
