North Korean leader says US is provoking nuclear conflict on Korean Peninsula

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has accused the United States of provocations and stoking tensions, saying the Korean Peninsula is at the greatest risk of nuclear war in history. About this informs Reuters.

“Never before have the opposing sides on the Korean Peninsula faced such a dangerous and acute confrontation, which could develop into the most destructive thermonuclear war.”, the statement says.

Kim Jong-un also accused the US of pursuing an “aggressive” policy towards North Korea.

“We have already gone as far as we could in the negotiations with the United States, but as a result we were convinced not of the superpower’s readiness for coexistence, but of its hard position of power and aggressive and hostile policy towards us, which will never change.”, he emphasized.

We will remind that from the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Russia into Ukraine, Kim Jong-un instructed to support the Russian army. This was stated by the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of North Korea, Choi Song Hee.

During his presidency, Donald Trump held an unprecedented three meetings with Kim in 2018-2019. However, these talks failed due to differences, with the US calling for the complete denuclearization of North Korea, while Kim demanded the easing of sanctions.

Trump has repeatedly boasted of his ties to Kim, saying he was able to avert nuclear war because of his personal relationship with the North Korean leader.

In his speech, Kim Jong-un also called for the modernization of the armed forces, promising to transform the military potential of the DPRK into “state-of-the-art”. During the speech at the “Defense Development Exhibition”, strategic and tactical weapons that strengthen the country’s defense positions were presented.

His statement came amid international criticism for deepening military cooperation between Pyongyang and Moscow. In particular, North Korea recently sent its military to Russia to support the war against Ukraine.
