Day of employees of hydrometeorological service in Ukraine

This professional holiday was introduced by the Decree of the President of Ukraine in 2003. It is designed to honor the important work of specialists engaged in monitoring, forecasting and analysis of weather and climate conditions.

The hydrometeorological service plays an extremely important role in the life of the country. Its activities cover many areas, including daily forecasts that help people plan their lives and businesses to avoid risks related to weather conditions.

Ukrainian specialists constantly monitor climate changes and their impact on ecosystems and the population. Information about dangerous meteorological phenomena (storms, floods, snowstorms) allows to minimize the consequences of natural disasters. Aviation, sea and river transport depend on accurate meteorological data. Long-term forecasts help farmers to choose the optimal time for sowing, harvesting and other agricultural work.

The formation of the hydrometeorological service in Ukraine began in the 19th century, when one of the first weather stations was created in Kyiv.

1916 – Autonomy of Eastern Galicia

At the height of the First World War, Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria-Hungary decided to grant autonomy to Eastern Galicia. 1919 – the USA did not ratify the Treaty of Versailles
