OpenAI launches a program to assist countries in developing AI infrastructure.

The company OpenAI launched a new program aimed at supporting countries in creating a large-scale infrastructure for artificial intelligence. The program, called OpenAI for Countries, expands on the company’s previous efforts, including the Stargate project, which involved the construction of data centers in the United States. About this informs Bloomberg.

Within the framework of the program, OpenAI will cooperate with the governments of various countries, providing support in the development of infrastructure for data processing. In addition, the company will adapt its products according to the linguistic and local needs of individual countries.

Funding for the initiative will be provided both by OpenAI and by the governments of partner countries. At the first stage, the implementation of ten international projects is planned, but their geography is currently not disclosed.

According to Chris Lehane, OpenAI’s vice president of global policy, the idea for the program arose after the AI Action summit in Paris, where representatives of various countries expressed interest in creating their own versions of the Stargate project. At the same time, the implementation of an ambitious initiative in the USA in partnership with SoftBank Group, Oracle and other companies, which involves investments of up to 500 billion dollars in AI infrastructure, continues.

The formats of cooperation within the new program will vary depending on the needs of each country. Some states already have data centers and only need to adapt them to the tasks of artificial intelligence, while others will start infrastructure projects from scratch. Chris Lehane emphasized that each initiative will be individually tailored to the specifics of a specific country.
