OpenAI rejects Musk’s offer to buy ChatGPT

OpenAI has rejected an offer from a consortium led by billionaire Elon Musk to acquire ChatGPT for $97.4 billion, saying the startup is not for sale. About this informs The Guardian.

“OpenAI is not for sale, and the board of directors unanimously rejected Musk’s latest attempt to disrupt its competition. Any potential reorganization of OpenAI will strengthen our nonprofit organization and its mission to make AI benefit all of humanity.” – said OpenAI head Bret Taylor.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has previously stressed that the company is not for sale, rejecting an offer from Elon Musk. In response, Musk accused him of fraud.

Musk’s lawyers also said the consortium, which includes his startup xAI, Valor Equity Partners, Baron Capital and energy broker Ari Emanuel, may withdraw its acquisition offer if OpenAI does not move to a commercial model.

“Two days ago, you filed a court filing in which you added material new terms to the offer. As a result of this filing, it became apparent that your clients’ highly touted offer was not really an offer.” – said in the statement of the board of OpenAI.
